With the Toshiba, the aforementioned keys are all by themselves and in easy to reach places. Toshiba Nb255 Netbook Install Software AndIn addition to the netbook I purchased a Targus netbook bag, a 2GB of RAM stick, and external CDDVD burner to install software and make backup discs to start from scratch if I ever had to. This is my first exposure to Windows 7 (Starter Edition is included) and Ive been very satisfied despite some of its limitations such as only having one user account or lack of desktop customization -- it works for what I need. I was also impressed with is the minimal crippletrial-ware that comes with this netbook. After making installation discs I just uninstalled the trial versions of MS Office and Best Buy software installer. Some people may want to keep this as a matter of convenience but I uninstalled it and just installed an older version of MS Office (I only use Excel, PowerPoint, and Word). It came pre-installed with a very recent version of Adobe Reader and Flash 10. I have not used the web camera nor have I watched DVD movies yet. Watching video clips stored from a USB external drive works well. This laptop is mostly quiet with virtually NO fan noise except when it cranks up when watching flash movies from web pages or from some of the longer movie clips. As long as the fan is unobstructed and you are in a cool place it hardly ever kicks in. Despite several positives this netbook does have some negatives. First I dont like the placement of the power and Ethernet ports on the side. Toshiba doesnt give you adapters with angled plugs whereas some of the other manufacturers do - namely Asus. The other issue Im having is a random hard click with the hard drive heads. The Toshiba store model I was looking at had a software utility that popped up a warning that it was moving the hard drive heads to a locked position whenever it detected movement when picking up the netbook -- however my laptop doesnt have that utility installed or activated it seems. I should probably have returned and exchanged this netbook but I have been to busy. I may in the future just purchase a solid-state hard drive as they are coming down in price all the time. One last thing that is annoying is that you cant change the display resolution to smaller or larger to pan like the Asus models. One reason you might want to have this feature is if software you are using requires a higher resolution -- case in point, I could not install the Canon Zoom Browser used to extract and view pictures from Canon cameras because it required that I have a resolution larger than 800x600. ![]() Overall I have been pretty satisfied with this netbook for use of light web browsing, document editing, and occasional movie clip viewing.
